Safety On The Job & In Public

If you have left an abusive relationship but feel you may still be in danger there are things you can do at work and other public places to make it harder for your abuser to have access to you:

  • Decide who to tell at work about your situation. Inform security officers at work and give them a picture of the abuser.
  • If possible, arrange to have someone screen your telephone calls.
  • Make a safety plan for getting to and leaving work.
  • Ask someone to escort you to and from your car.
  • Don’t always use the same route to and from work.
  • If you happen to run into your abuser in a public place, it’s safer to leave than to stay and risk a verbal or physical attack.
  • Even though you have the right to be anywhere you want to be, be pro-active and try to protect yourself.
  • Plan what you will do if problems occur.
