Some Domestic Violence Laws In ND

In North Dakota, assaulting another person is a crime, no matter what your relationship is with that person.

Simple assault is a Class B misdemeanor and carries a maximum penalty of thirty (30) days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. Assault is a Class A misdemeanor and carries a maximum penalty of one (1) year in prison and/or a $2,000 fine. Aggravated assault is a Class C felony and carries a maximum penalty of five (5) years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.

If your partner intentionally prevents you from calling 911 he/she can be arrested for interfering with a 911 call, a Class C felony, which carries a maximum penalty of five (5) years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.

When your partner chooses to hit you or to prevent you from calling 911, he/she has also chosen to commit a crime and is solely responsible for that choice.
